Research

Persistent, unambiguous Identifiers are critical to research.  The ARDC describes the roles they play.

• research outputs - Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) for papers and data
• people - ORCIDs (Open Researcher and Contributor ID), ISNI (International Standard Name Identifiers), Publons (formerly ResearcherID), Scopus Author Profile) etc
• organisations - OrgID (ORCID), Research Organization Registry (ROR), Global Research Identifier Database (GRID), ISNI (International Standard Name Identifiers)

Research Activity Identifier - RAiD is a unique and persistent identifier for research projects.  It acts as a container for research project activities by collecting identifiers for the people, publications, instruments and institutions that are involved.  

ORCID records may be linked to other identifier systems (i.e. into Scopus or Web of Science).  If ORCID records are kept up to date, there is no need to maintain records in multiple systems.
