EndNote: Getting Started

How can EndNote help?

EndNote is a bibliographic software program by Clarivate Analytics that allows you to:

  • Create a database or 'library' of references.
  • Search and download references from electronic databases and library catalogues.
  • Store downloaded PDFs with their relevant references.
  • Generate bibliographies in specific styles with the click of a button.
  • Share your library or group of references with your research colleagues.

What is EndNote Online?

EndNote Online is the online version of EndNote. It complements your EndNote desktop library by enabling you to:

  • Work collaboratively and share your EndNote Library.
  • Access your EndNote library from multiple locations without making multiple copies of your library.

EndNote and MacOS 10.15 Catalina

Apple has made the decision to drop all 32-bit application support with the release of the new macOS 10.15 Catalina.

What this means for EndNote Users

EndNote versions X9.3.1 and above are compatible with MacOS 10.15 Catalina

  1. If you already have EndNote X9, please install the new X9.3.2 update  prior to installing macOS Catalina to avoid interruption in your workflow
  2. If you are running EndNote X8 or earlier, we recommend upgrading to EndNote X9.3.2 as your current version will not work with macOS Catalina
