"Bookmarklets" - How to save time and money! - A Take 5 short presentation on them
A bookmarklet is a bookmark or favourite that you add to your internet browser (Edge, Chrome etc). It contains some JavaScript commands that transform a URL. Bookmarklets are available for browsers and mobile devices.
You want this paper https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2307563 ... but ... you run into a paywall and you are unable to access it.
Click on a bookmarklet and the link becomes this https://login.wachslibresources.health.wa.gov.au/login?url=https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2307563 and you are recognised as a WACHS subscriber with access to the full text and the pdf. The bookmarklet has added the library's proxy prefix to the link that is needed for a publisher site to allow access.
This will work for most journals, however, occasionally the authentication is more complex and you will need to go through the Library's Journals A to Z to gain access.
For instance - Library access to the Lancet is not from the Lancet site but from ClinicalKey - applying the bookmarklet on the Lancet site will not link you to full text as it is only available via the ClinicalKey platform.
