WHO | R&D Blueprint: Mpox (monkeypox)

The R&D Blueprint is a global strategy and preparedness plan that allows the rapid activation of research and development activities during epidemics. Its aim is to fast-track the availability of effective tests, vaccines and medicines that can be used to save lives and avert large scale crises. The WHO's R&D Blueprint Mpox (monkeypox) Team's technical areas of work:

  • Landscapes - these documents provide a preliminary landscape of the vaccines and therapeutics licensed or under development for Mpox as well as Vaccine and Therapeutic trackers that list the vaccine and therapeutic candidates currently under research and development.
  • Target product profiles (TPPs) describe the preferred and minimally acceptable profiles for vaccines and therapeutic agents. Currently there is only a TPP that covers therapeutics (26/8/24).
  • Trial designs - A CORE protocol for an RCT into the efficacy of treatments for patients with the mpox virus has been developed by the WHO's R&D Blueprint, in collaboration with other WHO Expert Groups and the WHO Access to Medicines Product Division as well as with input from external expert agencies.
